Jobless Rates for July Mixed
Unemployment in Reading decreased in July to 12.8 percent, down from a revised 12.9 percent for June, while Berks County’s increased to 8.3 percent, according to statistics provided today by the state Department of Labor and Industry.
The seasonally adjusted county jobless rate rose 0.3 percentage points from the 8.0 percent reported in June and dropped 0.9 percent from July 2010.
In the city, the unemployment rate was down from 13.3 percent a year earlier. This rate is not seasonally adjusted.
In July, Reading’s unemployment rate dropped to the fourth-highest among the state’s 80 largest municipalities.
